Preparing for the shoot

Inspired by Camille Vivier lighting I chose to light my models using snoot. And to use coloured rim light to represent  lights at night.

Choosing the rim light colours

Gamer guy:

Today, green is the colour of growth, freshness and youth, but not always it used to be like that. In the Cristian world "green seems to have been long associated with instability.<...> Even now, green tends to suggest the changeable nature of things: not by accident is it the colour chosen to cover gaming tables."(Gallienne and McConnico, 2005) So I chose green colour to show the instability, which is only a step away from disorder and madness.

Party girl:

Blue is today prized for its soothing and harmonious character and is now the favourite colour of the majority of the planet's inhabitants. However, in India blue is thought to bring bad luck, in China it was traditionally associated with pain. So even though blue colour can be seen as calm and heavenly it can mean the pain, and bad luck.

Coffee guy:

Red has a lot of different meaning throughout different cultures and years. " It can represent the forbidden, and blood, but it also mean power and love."(Gallienne and McConnico, 2005) In Japan red means the colour of life and light. In India and China - joy and celebration. However, red is also the colour of revolution, of blood split in battle, of danger,  and of the devil. So even though this colour can have good meanings it is mostly associated with danger, stress and evil. That is what I wanted to show in my image.

For this shoot I needed to find 3 models: 2 boys and 1 girl. As for almost all of my shoots I am looking for models at my work and luckily this time I found two guys that were willing to help me.

To find a girl was a bit harder as I had in my head how I want her to look. But I was lucky this time as well, as whilst I was helping Joe Gregory in his dance shoot I asked his model if she wouldn't mind posing for one more shoot and she kindly agreed to help me.

Before the shoot I did a small and quick sketches, so it would be easier to me and for others to understand what the idea is. I made just two sketches, the ones that were a little more complex.

For my gamer guy I just needed to bring controllers that we had (I had white Xbox one controller and Joe Gregory has black one). I decided to bring them both and to see which colour works better.

For mu second image I needed to get quite a few cups. For the last project we bought a few cheap (75p) white cups from Wilko and we still had  3 of them left, but that wasn't enough. So I went down to the shop again and bought 10 more. I also wanted to make them look like there was coffee in them, so for that we bought coffee and played a little bit in the studio to make stains, which worked out pretty good.

To help me with clothes I asked help from my friend from Lithuania, who is currently studying fashion design. She listed to what idea I have, white I would like and advised me what would work the best.

For my last image I didn't need anything. I asked my model to dress and do make-up the way she does every time she goes out. It was the least staged photograph.
