Idea development

For this project I decided to do about the closest topic to me - student life. Before I became a student everyday I used to go to sleep and wake up at about the same time, but now everything has changed. Now I have freedom to stay up late and wake up at ridiculous time. According to studies (Ravert, 2009) I am not the only one, who does that. Therefore, I decided to show what students do at night, how they spend their free time and how it affects them.

I decided to explore procrastination. As I mentioned before 70% of students procrastinate, which is quite a big number. The reason why they do it is simple:

"The temporal aspects of procrastination become more evident when we consider that procrastination is most likely to occur for tasks that have distal rewards or that are unpleasant, challenging or tedious and therefore elicit negative emotions. Task avoidance when combined with poor self-control becomes a way of regulating current mood by escaping the negative affect or lack of positive rewards associated with current tasks and replacing these tasks with more pleasurable and enjoyable ones." (Sirois, Fuschia M, 2014, 511-512p.)

In my images I wanted to show the affects that procrastination has. By doing so, students put away more important tasks and do something more enjoyable, however they know that what they do is wrong, that is way I choice to show their real faces, rather than pretend smiles. Everything that is going to be shown in my images is just before the fun starts or after it finished, when they are left alone just with their thoughts and regrets.

In my project I am going to use 3 people, 3 different portraits and stories. One of them is going to be a guy playing computer games, the other one - girl waiting for her house party to start and the last one is going to be a guy, who left all of his important work for the last minute and is trying to get everything done in one night.

As most of the students don't have much income so everything that they do happens at home. And I wanted to show the side that not everyone can see, because everything happens at home, behind closed doors.
