Final thoughts

On one hand I enjoyed this module, I liked making poster, creating website, doing leaflets. I also enjoyed putting my images up for everyone to see. It was nice to experience and know how many small stuff is involved into creating an exhibition. From the first sight it seems that all you need to do is to take images and put them on the wall, but I didn't think that there is also press releases, marketing, social media, posters, hand outs and many other things.

On the other hand it was painful. At most of the times I felt like I was left alone by some of my group members to take care and think about everything. It was tiring everyday keep asking if they did what they promised to do. It all would have been fine, but by doing most of the stuff I didn't left any time for my blog writing. That is why there are some stuff that I couldn't find time to write about.

It is crazy to think that we done everything in just 6 weeks. I went to all other group exhibitions and seen some amazing work there.

To cap it all, I believe that this module was successful  and we all produced some great work. Having a good group it is possible to put up a really good exhibition in just 6 weeks.

The exhibition night

I believe that exhibition went really well. We had a lot of people coming. Till 9pm people kept turning up. I had just 25 leaflets left, which meant that at least 55 people turned up. And I know that not everybody take them home. So it was a really busy night.

I enjoyed people looking at engaging with the work. Many people from my work turned up to see the exhibition, which was really nice of them bearing in mind that all of them live in Oldham.

A few images from the night:

Putting my images up

On the day I received some help from Joe and his dad. As my images were big and heavy I couldn't have done that on my own. I was the first one from my group to turn up to the venue, I was there at 11:30, my other groups members came at around 1ish and 2ish.

I had a lot of time to prepare for the exhibition so first of all I decided in what order I want my images to be.To hang my images on RSJ beams I used G clamps. First of all we put the middle image up. We used my hight as the middle of the images as I am 1m 55 cm tall. We used black ribbon to hanged them. When the middle image was up, then we put the other two leaving 20 cm gap between each image. And I also made sure that the images are level.

And that's it my images were up. Then we just cleaned the room, asked to replace the lights weren't working and pointed them on our images. I put the posters on the doors and put the leaflets on the table. Later me and Abi put up the posters with narrows outside the venue.

I just had a small/big issue. As I mentioned earlier in my blog I had small bumps on the images and because of the paper that I chose the ink worn off these areas and left a small white dots on the image. On the the I went down to Fred Aldous and bought a black marker. That helped a little as it was harder to see the places were the black ink was gone.

Preparing for the exhibition

In this module we needed to explore the international side of exhibitions, images and other stuff. Also inspired by Ciara Leeming exhibition, I thought that it would be a good idea to translate our statement in few other languages and put it on the wall in the venue. Two of my models that I shot were Romanians, so I got translated in this language and also I am Lithuanian, so I used the chance and for the first time in a few years I written something in Lithuanian. I put all of that on one A2 size document and printed it on photo text paper, so we could stuck it on the door near the entrance. I also printed our poster.

Statment in English:

For our collaborative project, we have stepped out of the light and into the darkness to illustrate the unknown and the mysteries of nightlife. Once the sun goes down we are connected to the physical world in ways that are lost during the day. Where once our ancestors were restricted by firelight we are now tethered to the world by a connection of artificial lights, be it at home, night club, or street light. The work that is on display is a personal exploration of the different aspects of nightlife.

In Lithuanian:

In Romanian:

Pentru colaborarea in acest proiectam decis sa pășim din lumina in întuneric arătând necunoscutul si misterele vieții de noapte. Noi reconectam lumea psihologica in cai ce sunt foarte des pierdute in timpul zilei.

Abigail made a small posters with arrows and our name cards and printed on photo text paper as well.
